A Hands-On Construction Experience

One of the highlights of the workshop was witnessing the meticulous process of constructing a student house from the ground up. Adriana and Ben observed the assembly of each wall, step by step, as the students skillfully crafted the framework of the house. It was fascinating to see the teamwork involved in installing the walls and roof, bringing the structure to life. The dedication and precision of the students were truly impressive, making this a remarkable learning experience.

Connecting with Industry Professionals

Beyond the construction site, the workshop provided ample opportunities to network with industry professionals. Adriana and Ben had the pleasure of meeting engineers, students, and professors who shared their knowledge and expertise. The conversations extended beyond the workshop, allowing them to engage with people who source wood from the United States and other countries, broadening their understanding of the global timber market.

Fostering Relationships through Meetings and Networking

The trip was also a chance to build and strengthen relationships within the industry. They met with the owners of Maderas Casa Grande and representatives from Promaderas, discussing current trends and future collaborations. Additionally, an insightful conversation with a competitor from Golf Trading provided a fresh perspective on the industry, highlighting the importance of exchanging ideas and staying connected with peers.

Exploring Medellin’s Timber Industry

Their visit extended to two sawmills on the outskirts of Medellin, both located in Los Llanos. They explored Casa Grande’s sawmill and Núcleos de Madera’s sawmill, gaining firsthand insights into the processes that drive the timber industry in this region. The visits were invaluable in deepening their understanding of local operations and their impact on the broader market.

Reflections and Future Opportunities

This trip to Medellin was not only educational but also incredibly rewarding. Adriana and Ben returned with a wealth of knowledge about construction techniques and a stronger network of industry contacts. Gulf South Forest Products finds this experience exceptionally valuable, and we look forward to participating in future workshops organized by American Softwoods Latam and APA.

The “Building of the Student’s House” workshop has left a lasting impression, reinforcing our commitment to staying at the forefront of industry developments. We are excited about the future opportunities that lie ahead and are eager to continue building connections within the timber industry.
